The Sunrise Academy Learner Charter

The Learner Charter explains the service The Sunrise Academy aims to provide you in terms of environment, learning, support and management as a learndirect learner. It also explains what is expected of you to ensure a pleasant learning experience.

1. What we will do for you:


Environment


  • Provide the time, place and style of learning that responds to your needs
  • Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, supportive and comfortable learning environment for all
  • Respect the diversity of all our students
  • Advise you on Health & Safety at the centre and at home

Learning:


  • Respect and value the different needs of individual learners
  • Offer learning materials that are relevant to your work interests and involve you in practical examples and exercises
  • Put you in touch with other people studying the same topics
  • learndirect material is accessible via the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Should we be advised of any disruption to this service we aim to advise you as soon as possible

Support:


  • Give clear information and advice that helps you make the best personal choice about learning programmes and maintain control of them
  • Help you to set learning goals and completion timescales
  • Monitor your progress and record your achievements whilst on the programme, not just once the course has been completed
  • Relate your learndirect learning to your longer term ambitions
  • Present evidence of your achievements to the widest range of public and private institutions
  • Provide easy access to the specialist support you need
  • Encourage you to achieve your full learning potential
  • Provide you with a ment or and/or online tutor
  • Online tutors will respond to your email messages within two working days
  • Mentors and/or online tutors will acknowledge activities and assessments you submit within two working days and will provide feedback where required within five working days

Management:


  • Offer the opportunity for you to comment about the course, the centre and service to ensure continued quality
  • Ensure that all learners and staff are aware of and comply with the Equal Opportunities statement and Health and Safety policy
  • Provide you with the centre’s complaints policy and details of who to contact
  • Resolve complaints and issues quickly and professionally
  • Provide information on centre and community activities

2. What we ask of you:


  • Access your course sufficiently and frequently to enable you to complete within the agreed timescales
  • For longer courses to maintain contact with your learning venue at least once every four weeks
  • Where you know that there will be a significant break in your studies (e.g. holidays) you will inform the learning venue
  • Work with staff to set your own targets for completing main assessment
  • Take part in any communications with other learners in your study group as required by your tutor or the course itself
  • Respond to email messages from your tutor within 3 working days
  • Keep an electronic copy of all communications between yourself and your tutor
  • Comply with Health & Safety in the centre and at home
  • Promote the centres Equal Opportunities policy by respecting your environment and diversity amongst other learners and staff

3. Your voice: how you can help us


It is important that we know what you think about your learning. We ask you to let us know how you feel about your course, the centre, our staff and anything that you experience at the centre or when you are studying. Please talk to the staff or the centre manager
